Lukla is the gateway to Everest where all trekking, mountaineering expeditions and other adventure start and end in this busy Sherpa town with amazing short airstrips. Our adventure leads past interesting traditional farm villages through wonderful villages of Choplung, Ghat and Phakding. Then leading higher into cool alpine temperature walking through pristine forest lined with tall rhododendron, pines, firs and oak trees with views of snow capped peaks. This scenic journey leads to Sagarmatha National Park entrance at Monjo village where all TIMS (Trekking Information Management System) and National Park permits are checked recording daily flow of all foreign trekkers.
From here walking along Dudh Kosi River crossing several suspension bridges and finally leading to a long climb uphill to famous Namche Bazaar the Sherpa capital and the main town of Khumbu around Everest region. A traditional Sherpa houses serving as hotels and lodge stands in an amphitheatre shape. In Namche Bazaar with necessary rest day at 3,440 meters high for acclimatization and short walks, before heading higher elevation. Namche a famous town or a large village, popular among trekkers as it is located on route both ways to Lukla and base camp.
After wonderful rest day heading higher to Tengboche Monastery located on a ridge within forest surrounding, with grand views of snow capped peaks including Mt. Everest and majestic towering peak Ama Dablam. In Tengboche visit the Monastery and observe the monks on prayer in tranquil environment, offering super views of high surrounding snow capped mountains and Mt. Everest. It all depends on the client’s requirement. However, We will be staying at 3 Star Hotel in Kathmandu and Guesthouse/teahouses during the trek. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional charges. We will have rooms with attached restrooms in most parts of the trek but this is not possible in a few remote locations. Also understand that single rooms are not easily available in higher elevations like they are in Kathmandu and the lower elevation regions. In Kathmandu for our clients as these hotels are conveniently located in the center of the popular Thamel area.
Autumn (Sept. to Nov.) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for trekking in the Annapurna region. The weather is sunny and warm with outstanding views. If you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with nature, then taking this trip during winter (Dec., Jan and Feb.) could also be an option. However, the temperature during winter could be harsh for most guests. Trekking in the summer or monsoon seasons (June to Aug) will be affected by rain but the summer trek could be a paradise for a keen botanist and naturalist.
Destination Holidays trekking involves for 4 to 7 hours of walking every day, depending on trails and altitude as per the trip selected, with some rest and acclimatization periods. The daily routine begins at around 6 a.m. with bed tea and washing water brought to your tent and rooms. Please get packed promptly so that the Sherpa guides can start taking down the tents and your baggage, while you are having breakfast. Take your day pack with you to breakfast. The morning walk will be about 3 hours and there is no need to hurry. The lunch stop lasts about 1 to 2 hours and is a good time to do your laundry and write your diary etc. Then walk for another 2 to 3 hours to our evening stop. Tea and biscuits awaits you and a few hours later dinner and evening reading, cards, drinking, etc.
Tipping though not compulsory however has become a customary in Nepal. 13 per cent VAT and 2.2 per cent Tourist Service Fee is usually included in your bill. Waiters, Bell boys and room maids would be happy to receive tips. Don’t give tips to Taxi drivers.
From the moment on landing at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, our staff will receive you with a warm welcome and transfer you to respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city. After refresh join the other group member for trip orientation and briefing by our guide / leader regarding trek, hotels, do and don’ts along with evening group dinner.
In Kathmandu morning sightseeing tour at places of interest, Kathmandu is steeped with historical and cultural monuments listed in World Heritage by UNESCO, all tour accompanied by expert cultural tour guide, after a great time back to hotel, afternoon free at leisure and trek preparations.
Early morning depart from the hotel for the flight to Lukla in a small plane Dornier, Twin Otter or similar type, during airborne great views of snow capped peaks with Mt. Everest, this scenic flight takes 30 mins, on landing at Lukla, meet our other trekking staff and porters, with time rest and to refresh before starting the trek to Phakding for overnight stop, walk leads through several wonderful villages and farm lands with great views of hills and valleys then reaching at Phakding village for the night halt by the Dudh Kosi (river)
Today, walk will be long heading to Namche at 3,440 m high on the uphill path, starting the morning on crossing few bridges over Dudh Kosi River, then reaching at Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. From here walk leads on the bank of a river, after last bridge an uphill haul for few hours all the way to Namche Bazaar, here with 2 nights in this large prosperous trading town-village as well the main centre and capital of Khumbu area with facilities of ATMs, Cyber cafes, stores, shops, restaurants, banks and fresh bakery with busy colorful interesting Saturday market.
A perfect place for rest day with acclimatization, morning a short hike up to park museum, information on mountaineering, flora – fauna and Sherpa culture and religions, this scenic beautiful place offers a grand vista of high snow capped mountains including Mt. Everest and majestic Amadablam, options a hike to Everest View Hotel for beautiful scenery of mountains above old Syangboche air strip. For energetic people can take a walk of few hours visiting the sleepy Khumjung and Khunde located on a glacial valley beneath the majestic holy peak of Khumbila the patron god of Khumbu.
After a good rest and acclimatization, morning starts along a gradual winding nice path through conifer and rhododendron woodland, with the striking views of Ama Dablam. On walk with stunning views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku and Kwangde peak. The path descends towards Imjatse River at Phunge Tenga to climb uphill through nice forest to reach at Tengboche Monastery, a scenic spot with views of Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thamserku, Kwangde and Mt. Everest.
This place is also a holy spot as the head lama (Rinpoche) of the monastery resides here. In this monastery, mountaineers take blessing from the high lama priest for better success and safe expedition.
Morning walk starts with a descend to Imjatse River at Phungetenga, after crossing the bridge a steep uphill for an hour then on the gentle winding trail all the way to Namche Bazaar, after a nice refreshing break at Namche journey continues following downhill all the way to Dudh Kosi River valley, with short ups and downs reaching back at Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then to Monjo village for overnight stop in this lovely small village.
Today, last of this super adventure ending at Lukla, morning walk leads on the gradual winding path to reach at Lukla, after a last final climb of 45 minutes, in Lukla reaching for lunch and overnight stop, a free afternoon to organize gratitude and farewell dinner with fellow staff and porters.
From Lukla daily flight operates early morning to Kathmandu, sometimes the flight time can get delayed due to unfavorable bad weather, as per the flight time board in a small plane for short scenic flight back to Kathmandu, on reaching at Katmandu domestic terminal transfer back to respective hotels.
Today, last day in Nepal with great memories and amazing experience trekking Tengboche Monastery Everest Panorama, our staff transfers you to Kathmandu international airport for your final departure homeward bound or to next port of call.
The Himalayan climate sometimes can be unfavorable with overcast bad weather, where flight to Lukla and back to Kathmandu can effected with delay or cancellation.
Destination Holidays will keep you inform of the situations in case of bad weather and what can be done to adjust the itinerary days and with your international flight back home.
In this situation please bear with us and be positive if the bad weather persists for many days (which is very rare) flying to Lukla, DH will reroute and arrange another similar type of trip to Annapurna or any hill / mountain destination with Luxury lodge facilities where available.
If the bad weather persists on flying to Kathmandu from Lukla, be calm we and our guide will do whatever means to evacuate our clients back to Kathmandu using helicopter, or one might have to walk for days to areas where the bad weather for flights is not affected.
