Your day with us:

As per the trip selected you will be walking for 4 to 6 hours every day (on trek), depending on trails and altitude with some rest and acclimatization periods. The daily routine begins at around 6 a.m. with bed tea and washing water brought to your tent and rooms. Please get packed promptly so that the Sherpa can start taking down the tents and your baggage, while you are having breakfast. Take your day pack with you to breakfast. The morning walk will be about 3 hours and there is no need to hurry. The lunch stop lasts about 1 to 2 hours and is a good time to do your laundry and write your diary etc. Then walk for another 2 to 3 hours to our evening stop. Tea and biscuits awaits you and a few hours later dinner and evening reading, cards, drinking, etc.

Sherpa Trekking guide:

Choosing your trip as per our trip price using just Sirdar (Head Guide) they are expert in finding trails and knows the area well, sirdar (head guide) with their invaluable experience and expertise are rated very highly by our clients on Adventure Holidays program. Our guides are well versed in Eco-Tourism, Culture/ Tradition and Wilderness Medical Course saving the surrounding environment, by taking care of the litter and bringing it back to Kathmandu or disposing at designated dumping place.

Communication with the head guide or Sirdar will be simple as most of the guides have risen to the rank of guide from porter and simple guide or from the kitchen unit, most of the guider are educated and can give you the information as per your queries apart from these they can help you in many ways with their excellent services.

Nepali Leader:

In early days till present most of the western agents still use foreign trek or group leaders, but since last 20 years demand of local leader has been highlighted by fellow trekkers and travelers as they knows the country well and all the local leaders are well educated and have the knowledge of the country, history, flora-fauna, culture, religion and more and they can easily give you information about the area of trekking, people and mountains as per your queries, they can communicate and can understand your requirements very well.

All our leaders goes through medical training yearly for a month at reputed certified medical course institution, and are well aware of the high altitude sickness of AMS and other related medical problem, in case of accident our dedicated local leaders can handle the situation efficiently as per the situation.

With the warm friendly hospitality of our company and its staff, all our clients feel certainly comfortable and at ease and our staff are happy to give you any kind of information from culture, religion, history or from flora to fauna they are very keen to share the knowledge with our valuable guest.

Accommodation at Lodge:

Last three decades the Tea-House trekking been established it was used normally by the back packers, as the facilities was Spartan and basic, but since last ten yearsthe Tea-House trekking has become popular among all the trekkers, at present most of the popular region like Annapurna-Everest and Langtang area are well developed with excellent Lodge for trekkers, Lodge standard varies from place to place in the low region below 3000 meters one can find good rooms with attaché restrooms and bathrooms, but as the elevation gains due to the harsh climate and landscapes and terrain conditions, the lodge are simple and basic but they are all neat, clean rooms and cozy warm dining halls, in most of the lodge in Everest region there are pot belly stoves in dining to keep the room warm with dry yak dung fuel but in Annapurna region only few places has these advantage most of the higher area do not have pot belly stoves due to the restriction from Annapurna Conservations Area Project.

In most of these places all the lodges are well kept, we always use the lodge with eco-friendly and with homely atmosphere so the clients can forget their tiring walks once they land in the lodges that we have chosen, most of the lodge that we book have clean-healthy environment with common restrooms and bathe-rooms where one has to pay extra for hot shower.

We can upgrade the rooms and lodge where available on trekking route as per your interest at extra cost from the price that we have set for standard rooms only.

Food on Trek and in long tours:

Food can vary from different lodges and places according to its availability during the season. Normally, the food menu has Nepali Dal Bhat(rice & lintel soup) with mild vegetable curry, fried rice, noodles, soups of great variation. In some places, Yak Steaks, Continental foods like Hash Brown Potato, Breads, Pan Cakes, Boiled Vegetables, Stew, Pizza, Cinnamon rolls, cakes and pies etc. But, as you go higher the food menu is very limited due to the harsh cold climate and the altitude.

In all our trips your guide / sirdar or leader will order the fix meals to save you the trouble from choosing and plus to save time and energy if all people orders the food according to the “la carte’ menu it will take long and too much fuel energy for cooking will be used, as most of the area we trek are eco-friendly so ordering same meals for everyone will certainly saves time and fuel as these area are remote each and everything has to be carried by yaks-mules or by porters. Every day we change the variety of fix meals menu so one will not be bored with same type of foods. We always take care and serve meals accordingly.

Drinking Water:

While on trek and long tours, we make sure that the clients get clean bacteria free water everyday, as on the trek the water will be boiled and cooled for the Group member to drink and to rinse their mouth. Iodine can be used but it only kills the taste of the water. Purify tabs only works 40 – 50% in the Himalayan Water as it has strong mineral contents. So the best for drinking is pre boiled water.

We discourage bottle mineral water since it pollutes the place with plastic bottles, unless you are very desperate or sick you can buy one, but the cost of bottle mineral water will be expensive as you reach higher area. So, the best thing is to buy and re-fill the boiled water in your own bottle, in some area like in Annapurna Circuit or at Annapurna Base Camp one can buy hygienically filtered drinking water at water stations where available at minimum cost.

All of DH’s treks and long tours are well planned in advance with high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). On high altitude treks and adventure we have set flexibility in our itinerary days with complete acclimatization before heading higher elevation.Too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to kill. We understand that for a safe trek it is essential to allow sufficient time for acclimatization. Sensible planning is therefore required to minimize the risk of AMS. Destination Holidays suggests all our clients especially ones with known heart, lung or blood diseases to consult their doctor before booking and with medical / travel insurance.

All our guides and leaders are well prepared for immediate evacuation procedure by any means of transportation to bring the victims in safe area. You may check out “Altitude Illness” by Dr Jim Duff for detailed information on AMS as most of our guides are trained by the expert medicals and by Dr. Jim Duff (who knows the Himalaya and have vast experience a mountaineering expedition’s doctors as well.

during winter could be harsh for most guests. Trekking in the summer or monsoon seasons (June to Aug) will be affected by rain but the summer trek could be a paradise for a keen botanist and naturalist.

Health Consideration

Health facilities, hygiene and disease risk vary worldwide. The area you are traveling through is safe and is not affected by any kind of health hazard. There are no statutory requirements unless you are arriving from an area designated as infected by cholera or yellow fever.

We recommend vaccinations against polio, typhoid, tetanus, and hepatitis A. Please consult your doctor or vaccination centre for up to date information.

Though malaria is not endemic in the Kathmandu valley and mountain and hilly region, it is advisable to take malaria prophylaxis if you are passing though India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. A combination of Paludrine (Proguanil) and Chloroquine are recommended for this part of South Asia. Sleeping tablets are very dangerous at high altitude as it depresses your respiratory system.

Visa Requirement

Visa can be obtained from Nepal Embassy and Consulates abroad as well as at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport on arrival. But Chinese nationals have to obtain visa prior leaving their country. Visa Fee for single entry is US$ 30 which is valid for 60 days. Multiple visas can be obtained paying US$ 80 which is valid for 180 days in a year. Sri Lankan National can get pilgrimage visa paying US $ 10.

Note: The above fee can vary every year and change please informs us for the latest updates.

Tipping though not compulsory however has become acustomary in Nepal. 10 per cent VAT and 2.2 per cent Tourist Service Fee is usually included in your bill. Waiters, Bell boys and room maids would be happy to receive tips. Don’t give tips to Taxi drivers.

Money Requirements for the Tour and Treks

Take about Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 or more if you intend to buy a lot souvenir or drink beer. The money you take on trek needs to be in fairly small denominations because many of the village shops will not have large amounts of change. You should take one, two, five, ten, twenty, twenty five, fifty and one hundred rupees notes. Give Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1,500 for tips at the end of the trek to trek leaders to divide equally among them.

Your policy should mention that trekking is involved & the Insurance Scheme designed specifically with the needs of the adventure traveler in mind. In addition to the normal provisions within any travel insurance policy, your scheme should include reference to covering trekking, rafting or biking etc involved in this trip and also include cover for helicopter rescue and repatriation. An additional cover may include ‘special outbound missed departure extension’ cover, providing valuable cover for internal flight departures missed due to international flight delays or vice versa.

Most of the days during mid-March-to early May and September and October/ November will be fine and pleasant with temperature of 10 – 20 degree Celsius and in the morning & night time the temperature might drop to –5 to –10 degree depending upon the altitude and the wind chill factor. Below 2000m the temperature can quite hot, as the vegetation and climb progress the weather will be cool for the walking.

What to expect:

The region that you will be trekking in is one of the most popular area for the walking journey and expeditions, so you might come across many other trekkers and mountaineers with Tea Houses and villages every hour or so with constant views of the snowcapped peaks. After 3,500 m the area will be barren with little vegetation like Juniper, Alpine shrubs & bushes and there are chances of seeing some wildlife like Impeyan Pheasants (Danfe), Musk Deer and other Mountain Antelopes or the rare elusive snow leopard on route.

As you Trek along you will encounter the low, mid hills to highlanders villages with their rich culture and religion most of the way especially above 2,000 meters. On the trail, you will come across some religious shrines and prayer walls or Mane where one has to walk clockwise as it is the custom of Tibetan Buddhism.

Since the expedition and mountaineering and as well commercial trekking began, tipping has become a custom or a tradition. Actually for most of the westerners, it’s an option unless you are fully satisfied with the service provided and feel like the trekking staffs deserve it. You can tip them at the end of the trek..

The normal tipping for this kind of trek and duration will be about US$ 15 – 20 per person, which is to be collected from each group member and handed over to the Trek Leader, head guide or Sirdar to be distributed among his staffs and porters.
